Filling your Toolbox
Let's face it - sooner or later you're going to have to make some repairs on your dirt bike. Having the proper tools will definitely increase your chances of getting out of the pits and back onto the track. Here are some essentials to consider for any motocross toolbox (along with some other goodies to take along):
- Metric wrenches (closed end, open end or combination)
- Metric sockets (1/4" and 3/8" drives and/or T-handles)
- Metric Allen wrenches
- Spark plug wrench
- Hammer
- Punches (flat and pointed)
- Screwdrivers (flat head and phillips head)
- Adjustable wrenches (small, medium and large sizes)
- Pliers (regular, channel lock, needle-nose, vise-grip)
- Knife
- Scissors
- Duct tape
- Electrical tape
- Safety wire
- Tire irons
- Tire patch kits (for bike tires and trailer tires)
- Air pump
- Tire pressure gauge (with "lower" tire pressure scale)
- Spare inner tubes
- Spark plugs
- Spare levers (clutch, brake)
- Spare cables
- Spare handlebars
- Spare grips (and glue)
- Spare air filter
- Chain lube
- Transmission oil
- Pre-mix oil (for those real men on 2-strokes)
- Cable lube
