Off-Road Opportunities

If you can't find a track, you've got to ride somewhere - right?  As with anything, beggars can't be choosers.  Take to the woods, my friend!  Off-road opportunities will likely fall into two broad categories:  public (government) land and privately-owned land.

Be aware that public -owned land opportunities may come with restictions concerning your bike (spark arresters, decibal level, etc.).  It's always best to "call before you haul" to be sure you understand the rules by which you'll be expected to play.

Private land usually is less restrictive but it's still a good idea to check on their rules and regulations.  Some off-road areas have motocross tracks or motocross-type (jumps, whoops, bermed turns, etc.) riding areas as well.

Be sure to be careful - and this is especially true for the little ones - when riding two-way trails.  I know someone who was motocrossing it through the woods only to meet someone doing the same thing - only in the opposite direction.  In the resulting crash, his femur received a nasty compound fracture.  Not a pretty x-ray, if you know what I mean.
